Honoring Real American Heroes
Celebrated on the third Saturday in May, Armed Forces Day is a time to pay tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. When it was initially founded, Armed Forces Day was as much about educating society about the role servicemembers play in the community as it was about recognizing and thanking them for their service.
Celebrating Armed Forces Day
The first Armed Forces Day took place on May 20, 1950. On that day, more than 10,000 veterans and troops marched in Washington, D.C., over 33,000 participated in a New York City parade and military aircraft performed flyovers at state capitals across the country.
This weekend, Arwood Waste invites you to find ways to recognize and thank Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen for their service. Consider volunteering at a military appreciation event or reach out to military-serving nonprofits, like the USO, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Honor Flight Network, Operation Gratitude or K9s For Warriors to see how you can get involved and support their programs.
Thank You For Your Service
At Arwood Waste, we would like to say Thank You to all active duty, reservists, guardsmen, veterans and retirees. On Armed Forces Day and every day, we thank you and your families for your service and sacrifice.

“For it is he – the Soldier, the Sailor, the Airman, the Marine – who has fought to preserve freedom. It is his valor that has given renewed hope to the free world that by working together in discipline and faith our ideals of freedom will always prevail.” – Admiral Forrest P. Sherman, USN
