Saluting the Marine Corps Who Keep Our Country Safe

“A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy two weeks ago – there’s no such thing as a former Marine. You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life. But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There’s no such thing as a former Marine.”

-General James F. Amos, 35th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps

On November 10th, Marine Corps Day, Arwood Waste extends a special thank you to the men and women of the United States Marine Corps who are diligently protecting us and maintaining our freedom by air, land and sea. We appreciate all that you and your families sacrifice to keep us safe.

If you have served in the Marines or are currently serving, we thank you. If you know someone who serves in the United States Marine Corps, or whenever you see a Marine, be sure to show your appreciation. Semper Fi!

Arwood Waste wants to celebrate all the holidays with you too!

Holiday Waste Pickup Schedule

Arwood Waste wants to celebrate all the holidays with you too. This is why we created a Holiday Pick-up schedule so you can make arrangements and placement of your waste material while we spend time with our families. Businesses that currently receive collection may have different schedules and procedures than residential customers since business garbage is normally collected separately from residential garbage.

Call us toll free at 1-800-477-0854 today and ask us how we can save you time and money.

Collection service will be postponed by one day following these holidays:

  • New Year’s Day – No Service on January 1st. One day delay. Example; Monday collection day will be serviced on Tuesday.
  • Fourth of July – No Service on July 4th. One day delay. Wednesday collection day will be serviced on Thursday.
  • Labor Day – No Service on the first Monday of September. One day delay. Monday collection day will be serviced on Tuesday.
  • Thanksgiving Day – No Service on the fourth Thursday of November. One day delay. Thursday collection day will be serviced on Friday.
  • Christmas Day – No Service on December 25th. One day delay. Example; Monday collection day will be serviced on Tuesday.
  • Halloween Day – We will be providing service on October 31st. If the route is delayed and cannot be finished before dusk we will finish the route the next business day.
  • National Garbage Man Day – We will be providing service on June 17th as scheduled. Please remember to throw up your hand with a simple smile and say “Thank You”.

Due to the one day postponement, the collection of containers is resumed as follows: If the holiday is on a Monday, then the Monday collection will occur on Tuesday, Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday, and so on. If the holiday is on a Thursday, then the Thursday collection will occur on Friday and Friday collection will occur on Saturday for that week only. On all other holidays, normal collection of containers will occur. If a holiday falls on the weekend, then pickups will run on a normal schedule unless otherwise specified.

Breast Cancer Awareness – Kicking Breast Cancer to the Curb

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Waste Management Industry is Spreading the Word

According to the American Cancer Society, there will be 252,710 new cases of invasive breast cancer, 63,410 new cases of breast carcinoma in situ, and 40,610 breast cancer deaths in 2017. The National Breast Cancer Foundation reports that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Treatment for this terrible disease is most effective when discovered early through regular screenings, which makes public reminders to schedule screenings so important.

Most people are aware of breast cancer, but many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages. It’s also important to encourage others to do the same. While less than 1% of all breast cancers occur in men, men need to be checked for breast cancer too. In 2017, about 2,470 men are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer.

As October comes to a close, we want to highlight a few of the waste service providers who are raising awareness for breast cancer and helping fund research for a cure this month and all year long.

Gallegos Sanitation, Inc. – Think Pink Program

The GSI Think Pink Program supports local charitable organizations with funds raised to reduce the personal impacts on real people in their community. Participants in the program can choose to direct their donation to Hope Lives Breast Cancer Support Center or UCHealth Cancer Center.

Flood Brothers – Strides Against Breast Cancer

Events are held in cities across the country to raise awareness and funds for research. On Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, Flood Brothers provided pink garbage cans and their pink truck to the event attended by thousands.

Boon & Sons – Pink Cart Trashes Cancer

Boon & Sons offers their customers the ability to choose a pink cart. There is a one time $5 charge for the use of a Pink Cart, which goes to support the Society’s breast cancer awareness programs.

Fogle’s Septic Services – Fight for the Cure

During the month of October a percentage of Fogles pumping proceeds will be donated to help fight for the cure. Fogle’s also accepts donations throughout the year.

Casella – Casella Cares, Supporter of Making Strides

Metropolitan Recycling – For the Cure

Cal-Waste Recovery Systems – We Go Pink

Recology Yuba-Sutter – Pink October

Employee Owners at Recology Yuba-Sutter support the Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation. The foundation provides financial assistance to women in the Yuba-Sutter community who are battling female forms of cancer

Ingrum Waste Disposal – Wearing Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Cascade Cart Solutions – The Pink Cart

The Pink Carts are available to solid waste and recycling companies across North America with $5 of every purchase going towards American & Canadian Cancer Societies’ efforts to end breast cancer. Pink Carts has raised over $600,000 for American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

WCA – Pink Trucks and “Pink Shirt Fridays” year round

WCA - Pink Dumpster Truck - Breast Cancer Awareness - National Garbage Man Day

WCA has painted a variety of their trucks, roll-off containers, and commercial dumpsters pink. They have an ongoing program called “Pink Shirt Fridays” where they donate $4 to breast cancer research at MD Anderson for each employee who wears a pink shirt to work on the last Friday of every month. To date, WCA has raised over $78,000 for Breast Cancer Research.

Bingo Bins – Going Pink

Arwood Waste and Partners Nationwide

Even though Breast Cancer Awareness Month is coming to an end, our work is far from over. From funding research, to reminding those we love to get screened, to scheduling our own appointments to get checked, everyone has an important part to play in battling breast cancer every day of the year.

We want to thank all of the many commercial and municipal waste service providers for their support and fundraising efforts to find a cure for breast cancer.

National Garbage Man Day and our friends in the waste management industry care about you so make your plan today. Tell your friends and GET SCREENED!
